James graduated from the University of Winnipeg athletic therapy program. He spent 10 years working in the Queen's Athletic Therapy Department, primarily covering men's hockey. James then worked with the Carleton University Men's Hockey team before joining Skyward.

He also has experience at the highest level of sport representing Canada as the athletic therapist for Sledge Hockey at the 2018 Paralympic Games and men's hockey at the 2017 FISU World University Games.

James is currently working part-time with Skyward while he pursues a career in Respiratory Therapy. He is in his first year of the program at Algonquin College.
